SXS does both conventional production work for awards shows, tours, festivals and conferences.  But we also get involved in some really fascinating and innovative projects.   Ever worked on a soviet aircraft?  How about in the depths of a Ukraine mine?    What about underwater?   Or back-to-back tour dates for international acts doing arena performances throughout Europe?   If you are keen on this SXS is the place!

In this role you would be working as a lighting technician and/or designer within our full-time team.    This includes:

  • Prep and maintenance of all types of lighting equipment
  • Pre-build of shows at SXS HQ (one of the UK's largest pre-build spaces)
  • Involvement in production meetings where ideas and concepts are shared
  • Setup and operation of equipment onsite
  • Working alongside our in-house team of set builders, riggers, sound engineers and video technicians
  • Working in other departments including audio, video, set and staging in a junior capacity - this present an excellent learning opportunity which is crucial for everyone at SXS; even at the most senior levels.

  • A strong understanding of lighting technical concepts

  • Be based in Bristol, or willing to re-locate for this full-time role
The Kit:

SXS has the UK's broadest range of event production equipment covering lighting, audio, video, rigging, media servers, cameras, grip, set build, staging, drapes and special effects.   This means you will have opportunitites to work with and alongside other equipment.

In terms of lighting SXS has a large stock of moving lights, generic lighting, control desks and effects.    We frequently do arena-scale shows with in-house equipment stocks.

All equipment is maintained to exceptionally high standards and we manufacture our own cases.

The Location:

SXS HQ, Bristol and site as required (throughout the UK)

Basis of the Role:

Full time.  Salaried.

As a competent lighting technician you may be able to work in lighting design as part of a production team.

Once you develop a broad range of knowledge you can work towards becoming a project handler, which means running projects.

In time you may be able to become a Project Director which involves designing and specifying projects from scratch.
